How to select a wedding veil
It is not very easy to choose a wedding veil. Veils are worn by brides as a headpiece. It may cover a part of their face. You may need to search hard before you actually get the perfect one for your wedding.
A number of things should be kept in mind before finalizing the wedding veil.
1. If you have a very ornate gown—with very intricate beading, ruffles, or embroidery—keep your veils simple. You don’t want the two to compete for attention, plus you could ruin the sophistication and elegance of your dress and just end up looking tackily overdone. If you want, you can add just a simple trim (like a line of pearls or lace at the edges). Conversely, If your gown is very simple, you can have a very ornate headpiece and or veil to attract attention to your face.
2. Consider the back detail of your dress. If you want to show off the back of the dress, you may want to choose a short veil (blusher or elbow length) a veil with less fullness to it (72" width, pony veil, or the ballerina headband and side veil). Let the veil finish below the decoration. Silk tulle is sheer enough to allow decoration to show through.
3. Convenience is another consideration. You don’t want to wear a veil so cumbersome that talking or moving will be cumbersome and messing up your wedding day hairstyle, especially as you will be socializing with the guests during the reception. If possible, look for a vein that allows you to easily remove part of it after the ceremony.
4. Don’t forget you can have a veil made to measure just as you can a dressBefore you buy veil. You can have the exact length and decoration that you want. Try lots of different styles and lengths of veil in different fabrics to find the one that best compliments your outfit and try it once with your wedding dress and see if it matches.
5. Your height also determines the type of veil you should opt for. A veil, not too long, may be up to your elbow will be perfect for you if your height is less than 5'4". However if you are well over 5'7", you should go for a fingertip veil. Elbow length veils are usually worn with short gowns whereas fingertip veils compliment slightly longer gowns.
6. Complement your face. A veil falling along the side face will make a round face look narrow. In case you have a good jaw line, go in for a wide and short veil. It will display your asset perfectly.
7. Think of adding colour eg. embroidery, to the veil to link in with your bridesmaids and/or bouquet.
8. Don’t forget to take your veil with you when you have your hair trial.
9. If you are nervous of pressing your veil, ask the store where you bought it if they will steam it a couple of days before the wedding. You can transport it home covered in a pillow case or duvet cover depending on its length. A perfect veil will make your wedding dress look all the more perfect.
