How to disposal of Prom Dress

EBay is the all time best way to sell items like this. I have sold so many clothing items on eBay for much more than I would have gotten at a yard sale or from placing an ad in the local paper. eBay is easy to use and as reasonably priced as placing a newspaper ad.
Donate to Charity
There are several places where a person can donate prom dresses to be used by girls that can't afford to buy one.
Start a Dress Library
I guess this is a suggestion for re-use rather that re-sale. My sister has three daughters who all went to all of the high school dances. Most of their dresses were very elegant but very inexpensive. My sister shops the clearance racks and finds beautiful things.
When it was my daughters turn to go to the dances, she just went to their closet and "checked out" a dress to wear. She did buy one dress of her own but added it to the library. I told some other people at church about what we do. One woman added her daughter's dresses to the library. Now when we know of a girl who is going out to a very nice dinner or dance, we send her to the library. I still have two other daughters to go so this is going to save a lot of money in the long run.
Sell on Consignment
I would suggest taking the dress to a local consignment store. You won't get the full price of the dress, but you'll at least get something for it.
You might also place an ad in the newspaper. Or, see if there's a prom dress swap sale going on somewhere. If there isn't one, organize one though your school, church, or youth group. There are probably lots of girls at the local high school who would be interested in paying less for a prom dress and other girls in the area who would like to pass on their gently used dresses.
Try Your School Newspaper
There are a few ways you can do this. First, if your school has a newspaper, you could run a small ad or article advertising your dress. Second, you could put a notice on the school bulletin board, or have it announced over the PA at morning announcements. Third, you could put a notice up on local store bulletin boards.
Prom Dress Exchange
A high school in our area organized a prom dress exchange. Girls brought in their once-worn dresses (and some tuxes came in, too) and advertised a sale. There were a few rules. You had to be in the class having the prom or the date of someone going to the prom. You had to be going to that high school's prom. Dresses cost from $10 to $20, and there were also shoes, purses and other accessories available.
The money raised went to a local shelter, as I recall. You don't make money off the dress. However, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that your dress helped someone create her own high school memory.
