Hairstyle Tips for Young Girls & Wedding Flower Girls
Girls are very concerned about their hair! Give her the perfect formal hairdo by following these 5 tips.
1. Practice a new style when you are not hurried and well before the event.
Before that special occasion, try out the hairstyle a few times - make sure she likes it and you can style her hair in the way you thought it would look. Let her wear her new little girl hairstyle around the house or on a Sunday morning for church. Did it keep its shape or was it falling out and looked messy within an hour? Also, by practicing ahead of time, you will know how long it takes to style her hair and what products work best.
2. Practice with the Hair Accessories ahead of time as well
When adding flowers to her hair or hair jewelry such as a flower girl tiara, or pageant tiara you defiantly want to practice the little girl hairstyle with the ornamental hair piece and keep it in for several hours just to see how well it holds. Does the pageant tiara need additional bobby pins to secure it? What size flower girl flower halo looks best on her size head? How long do fresh flowers look fresh while in her hair?
3. Think about the event timing as to when you will style her hair.
Does her hair hold a curl when it was washed the night before, or does it hold better right after a wash and dry? Does she still take a nap and wake up cranky? Will she allow you to style her hair at that particular time of the day? Should you go with girl’s updo hairstyle or a simple hairstyle? Keep in mind your little girls personality and the timing of your event before you get your hopes set on a fun hairstyle - be realistic for her age, personality and the time of the event.
4. Have her hair cut about 2 – 3 weeks before the big event.
Talented hairstylists can do wonders for everybody’s hair including little girls. They can even-up the back (which can actually make it look thicker and fuller) and trim bangs to the perfect length. Just remember, it is a great idea to have all of that done a few weeks before to allow for the “just cut hair” look to wear off. And if you have never taken your little girl to a hairstylist before, get recommendations or try out the hair stylist months before the event, just to be sure you are happy with the hairstylist’s personality and ability. The night before a big event is not the time to trim her bangs or even up the back of her hair. If it is cut too short there will be nothing that can be done!!
Most little girls under the age of three years have very fine, thin hair. That baby fine hair is very hard to pull up in any style and seems to slip right through most hair accessories. Your goal would be to make sure her hair is clean, brushed and it is not covering up her beautiful face Pull it to the side with a clip and a pretty bow. For a wedding flower girl add a flower girl halo and get your camera ready - she will look absolutely angelic! For older girls, you can be more creative. Just remember, if you pull her hair into a bun, make sure it is piled on the top back of her head and leave down a few curls to frame her face (you don’t want her to look bald from a distance!)
